Whitby Figure Skating Club: Ice Rules & Etiquette
General Rules

Arrive on time and prepared for your session.

Treat coaches, fellow skaters, and officials with respect at all times.

No food, gum, or drinks on the ice (water is allowed).

Keep cell phones off the ice.
Right of Way

Skaters performing programs to music have the right of way. Please move aside safely.

Yield to skaters receiving lessons with a coach.

Always check your surroundings before starting elements such as spins or jumps.
Safety & Awareness

Keep moving; do not stand or sit on the ice.

Stay aware of other skaters at all times.

If you fall, get up safely and quickly.

Practice jumps and spins in designated areas whenever possible.

Alert others by calling “Excuse me” or “Heads up” if needed.
Etiquette

Be polite and encouraging; foul or abusive language is not permitted.

Avoid socializing or disruptive behavior during sessions (e.g., shouting, horseplay, blocking patterns).

Share the ice fairly—everyone deserves space to practice.
-
Clear the ice promptly at the end of your session.
Music Use
-
Follow the posted music rotation system.
-
Request only one program per turn and be respectful of others.
-
Coaches may occasionally adjust the music order for lessons.
